CHLD by Sevaro: Turning Kids into Life-Saving Superheroes

At Sevaro, our mission has always been clear—save lives through innovative neurology solutions, compassionate care, and a relentless commitment to SEVA, the Sanskrit word for “selfless service.” That spirit of service lives at the heart of everything we do, and it’s the driving force behind CHLD: our Children’s Health Literacy Department.

Why CHLD Matters

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke. Every 4 minutes, someone dies from one. And yet—80% of strokes are preventable.

CHLD is more than an educational program. It’s a national initiative with a bold goal: educate one million young people to recognize the signs of stroke and take life-saving action.

By empowering kids early, we’re not just teaching them how to protect their loved ones—we’re building a healthier, more informed generation.

What Is CHLD?

CHLD is Sevaro’s flagship health literacy initiative designed to bring stroke education and prevention strategies into schools, after-school programs, and youth organizations across the U.S.

Through interactive tools like our “BE FAST, Be a Superhero” book series, hands-on workshops, and ambassador-led outreach, CHLD equips students with:

  • The ability to identify stroke symptoms quickly using BE FAST

  • Understanding of how and when to call 911

  • Awareness of risk factors like high blood pressure

  • Confidence to act in real-time, possibly saving a life

Fueled by SEVA

Sevaro was founded on the principle of SEVA: service without expectation. That philosophy doesn’t stop with patients. It extends into schools, homes, and communities.

CHLD is an extension of that belief—a mission to deliver vital health education to children who otherwise might never learn what a stroke looks like or how to respond.

We’re not just teaching kids facts—we’re giving them the tools to become real-life superheroes.

Big Impact, Bigger Vision

Since launch, CHLD has:

  • Distributed over 10,000 stroke awareness books in 25 states and counting

  • Partnered with Yale School of Medicine’s Stroke Busters program

  • Announced two $25,000 scholarships for students advancing stroke awareness

  • Donated 1,000 books to expand Yale’s youth health programs

Empowering the Next Generation: Sevaro and Yale Launch National Stroke Awareness Campaign for Youth

Sevaro Partners with Yale School of Medicine

One Million Kids, One Mission.

Sevaro & Yale School of Medicine Stroke Neurologists Unite to Teach Stroke Awareness

When it comes to stroke, time is brain—and education saves lives.

That’s why Sevaro, the leader in AI-powered teleneurology and virtual stroke care, has teamed up with stroke neurologists at Yale School of Medicine to launch a nationwide effort to bring stroke awareness to the next generation through Sevaro’s Children’s Health Literacy Department (CHLD) initiative.

One Million Kids. One Mission.

The partnership centers around a bold goal: educate one million children on how to recognize and respond to the signs of stroke—arming them with life-saving knowledge that could help protect their parents, grandparents, teachers, or peers.

As part of this collaboration, Sevaro and Yale’s Stroke Busters program will award two $25,000 scholarships—one to a high school student and another to a college student—who present innovative ideas that raise community awareness around stroke prevention and action.

BEFAST, Be a Superhero

At the heart of this campaign is Sevaro’s childrens stroke education book, “B.E.F.A.S.T., Be a Superhero.” Designed to be engaging and accessible for young readers, the book teaches the signs of stroke and how to respond—reinforcing the “B.E.F.A.S.T.” acronym used in stroke identification.

Over 10,000 copies have already been distributed, with another 3,000 pre-ordered—reaching families in 25 states and counting. As part of this initiative, Sevaro will donate 1,000 books to Yale’s Stroke Busters program to help bring this critical education into more classrooms and communities.

Even better? You can now purchase the book on Amazon, and 100% of all book sales go toward funding the CHLD Education Stipends.

Why Stroke Awareness for Kids Matters

  • Every 40 seconds, someone has a stroke in the U.S.

  • Every 4 minutes, someone dies from one.

  • But 80% of strokes are preventable.

Health literacy is one of the most powerful tools we have to change these outcomes,” says Dr. Rachel Forman, Assistant Professor and Stroke Neurologist at Yale New Haven Hospital. “Sevaro’s mission aligns perfectly with our goal to bring life-saving stroke education into schools and households.”

Rooted in SEVA

Sevaro’s culture is deeply rooted in SEVA, the Sanskrit word for selfless service. That spirit is what drives the CHLD initiative and the broader work Sevaro does to improve access to care through cutting-edge telestroke and teleneurology technology.

“CHLD is about more than education—it’s about empowering kids to become health leaders in their communities,” said Dr. Rajiv Narula, CEO of Sevaro. “We believe in building healthier futures, one child at a time.”
